There is one title for God that Paul uses in Philemon that, up till his conversion to Christ on the road to Damascus, Paul would not have used: the title, “Father.” A devout Jew might refer to God as Elohim, El-Shaddai, El-Elyon, Adonai, and with great care, as YHWH. But not as Father. And yet in Philemon 3, he refers to God by that very term. What changed?
